Shou Sugi Ban is a unique firing technique inspired by centuries-old Japanese traditions. The surface of the wood chars and becomes extraordinarily hard-wearing in a natural way because the fire extremely compacts the cells in the wood. This keeps mould, water, rot, weathering and pests at bay.
Durch Feuerhitze
entsteht eine tiefschwarze, zugleich jedoch sehr lebendige Färbung und die Textur des Holzes kommt wunderschön zur Geltung. Die für jedes Stück Holz einzigartige Maserung wird durch das Ankohlen zusätzlich hervorgehoben. Im Laufe der Jahre altert die schwarze Kohleschicht und entwickelt eine schöne Patina, die den Charakter zusätzlich unterstreicht.
The heat of the fire
produces a deep black yet very vivid colour that beautifully accentuates the texture of the wood. The grain, which is unique to each piece of wood, is additionally emphasised by the charring. Over the years, the black charcoal layer ages and develops an attractive patina that adds to the visual appeal of the design.
